Family Law

Family law affects people more profoundly than any other area of law. Managing and resolving family conflicts the wrong way can impact negatively on family members for generations. Taylor Hampton recognises the gravity of the responsibility they take for helping clients, and their families, through the process of dispute resolution with a constructive and principled approach.

Above all, knowledge and experience count. The law is complex, especially in cases where international issues, sophisticated financial structures or off-shore assets are relevant. Our leading family lawyer is David Truex who an expert in family law in England and Wales as well as internationally. He is one of the foremost family experts in legal jurisdictional disputes. David has practised family law for over 40 years and has been at the forefront of family law reform, acting as an advisor to governments in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

David is an expert in complex family cross-border litigation, often involving disputes over jurisdiction and forum shopping. He fights to secure the best jurisdiction for his client. Most of his litigation is conducted in the London family courts although he is frequently instructed to advise other lawyers in England and overseas on international issues. He has been involved in several of the most significant reported cases defining the limits of English family law jurisdiction.

For those clients whose families need legal intervention our approach is uncompromisingly robust. If necessary we will recommend urgent court proceedings without notice to other parties. In grave circumstances, such as child abduction, violence or asset removal this may involve work overnight and on weekends to obtain crucial protective court orders.

We have the ability to speedily advise clients involved in multi-jurisdictional cases.  We promise rapid intervention when necessary.

Once our client’s position is protected we can review dispute resolution options including mediation, collaborative practice, arbitration or court litigation (sometimes combining these processes) to achieve the optimal outcome at a proportionate emotional and financial cost to the individual and the wider family.
